Our Vision

Art N Dance Academy in Newton, MA fosters artistic expressions and cultural diversity through dance and art, connecting people across ages and backgrounds through their common love for art and dance.

We accomplish this vision by conducting Innovative Learning Workshops and Classes, and organizing Artistic Expressions Events by participating in multiple community engagement events.

Sushmita Biswas, Artistic Director, Choreographer and Dance Teacher: Sushmita is a visionary dancer, artiste and passionate dance teacher. Extensively trained in Indian classical, creative & folk dance forms, Sushmita now choreographs new productions. Influenced by the charitable works of her father, Late. Dr. Bijoy. K Biswas, a notable medical professional, Sushmita find’s meaning in positively impacting the community through art and dance and is passionate about teaching kids to help them grow their confidence and skills. Sushmita is a current resident of Newton, a graduate of MIT Sloan, a mother of 3 kids and a financial services executive.

A few of her notable dance works include lecture demonstrations at MIT on “Management lessons from Indian classical dance”, choreographies on Tagore’s voyages at Harvard University, performance as part of Baikali organization in a bilingual dance-theater “The Child” in London, UK and India. Sushmita has conducted multiple dance workshops in non-profit organizations and schools in UK and the US. Also memorable is her performance in a BBC educational film “A Candle in the Dark”.

Shrabasti Roychowdhury, Dancer and Composer: Shrabasti moved to Boston in 2019 to pursue postdoctoral research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School. Her interest to learn dancing and sense of “taal” (beats) was introduced by her grandmother at a very young age and she went on to train in Bharatnatyam (Indian classical dance) and subsequently, in Indian contemporary dance.

Shrabasti was an active member of a professional dance troupe named “Kalapi” based in Kolkata, where she performed in many prestigious recitals. She was also a member of the West Bengal Dance Group Federation and had the opportunity to perform at various dance festivals. After moving to the U.S, she continued her passion for dance through college performances and local community events. In Boston, Shrabasti has performed, choreographed, and directed dance recitals for several local Indian community programs. Her deep-rooted passion for dance motivates her and helps her balance her work life.

Jiyaan, Artist: Jiyaan is a thoughtful young artist, inspired by his love of animals, nature, fantasy and pure passion for art. Jiyaan would love to hear from you, so do send in your feedback or your requests for personalized pieces through our online form.

Jishnu Ganguly: Website & Event Manager: Jishnu is a responsible, meticulous high school student at Newton, MA. As a Piano Emerging Artist from All Newton Music School, a coder, a Math Kangaroo National Level winner, a Math teacher and a thoughtful, empathetic child, Jishnu is a key contributor to Art N Dance Academy. He manages the web-pages and assist in the event organizations for the Academy.

We hold Indian Classical dance, Odissi classes for children to ground them in the concepts of striving for perfection, while building their physical strength and strong dance base.

In addition, participants immerse in creative choreography that encourage creativity, team work and celebrations.
